Be vigilant about “me” time

You can’t be the best version of yourself if you’re run down. Self-care is the prerequisite to care, to serve.

For years, I worked hard building an admirable corporate career as defined by our society; delivering results consistently with no excuses, taking on international assignments, and getting comfortable being uncomfortable.

I achieved success as defined by conventional wisdom – a bigger job title, the house, the car, the family, the fancy vacations. I worked hard on myself too; taking in constructive feedback, pushing myself to be even more confident, even stronger, less emotional, and more vocal.

I was stuck on a spinning hamster wheel.

As the years went by, each next promotion seemed less exciting. I witnessed the destructive effects of corporate cultures led by “powerless powerful leaders”. You’ve met the type - those who are in “survival mode”, going through the motions, yet struggling to cope. My patience for rigid, self-preservation led mindset was wearing thin with each passing day.

In my personal life, I realised there were other things that were more important to me - my daily self-care routine, my love for music and the arts, and quality time with my daughter – all of which were being put aside for “when things are not as crazy”.

But the reality is life will always be crazy.

About Jacinta

At some point, we have to pause. Recalibrate.

I had an epiphany that shook me intellectually, mentally, emotionally and spiritually: what got me here, won’t get me there. Especially with the unprecedented change that is happening around us on a daily basis.

Disruptions can come from unexpected angles and at any time, we must be more strategic in our approach to work and to life.

I decided to call for time-out. I wanted to know what was the missing link - between all the investments that organizations are making to develop their people and the people actually thriving and succeeding professionally and personally.

I left a high-flying job at one of the largest companies “to figure this out”.

I decoded my 20 plus years of achievements and experience gained in the Tech industry.

I discovered that leaders burnout from shouldering everything or get left behind when they are out of touch.

How do you make decisions when you’re under siege by constantly changing environments?

What are your assumptions? What if your assumptions are no longer valid?

How do you differentiate between signals and noise?

I got really curious and asked better questions to each and every one of our clients over the past few years:

What exactly are the most transformative results that we helped you achieve?

What did we do better than anyone else in solving for those problems?
