Find Out Who You Are & Do It On Purpose
Today, it was a privilege to be invited to celebrate International Women’s Day with two separate organizations – HubSpot and Ericsson.
It’s very encouraging to see how these two organizations are embracing a diverse and inclusive culture, in one of the most diverse regions in the world.
The event at HubSpot was very well organized with fantastic speakers and great turnout. I was also very pleased to learn that they are ahead of their peers in the Tech industry, in terms of having high representation of women managers and leaders!
At Ericsson, I saw a team that were genuinely happy to be with their work family. The men, specifically men leaders, actively participating in an International Women’s Day event, leading D&I initiatives, hand-in-hand with their women colleagues, is something that other companies could learn from.
You know D&I is not a lip service to them. They walk the talk.
Today’s conversations have gotten me to reflect on my career journey over the past 20+ years. And I’m finding so much wisdom in this brilliant quote by the one and only Dolly Parton:
My experiences have thought me that to find out who you are and do it on purpose, you must:
1. Know where you’re going
2. Show people who you are
3. Surround yourself with people that support where you’re going, not only where you’re now
It’s heart-warming to see how far we’ve come as a society, as organizations in striving for true equality for all. I’m even more hopeful now than ever.
What are you doing in your organization that we can all learn from? I would love to hear from you.
